Access to Higher Education for First Peoples Students – February 4
First Peoples face numerous obstacles on their path to academic success, and it is important to recognize these systemic barriers. Five webinars will be held in the coming months to identify these barriers, come up with ways to overcome them, and encourage the engagement of university and government actors at the Forum.de les surmonter et de favoriser la prise d鈥檈ngagement des acteurs universitaires et gouvernementaux lors du forum.

The National Building Reconciliation Forum is scheduled for聽September 21-23, 2021 at the
H么tel Le Concorde in Qu茅bec.聽 The webinars in this schedule will serve to prepare for this Forum.
The theme of the forum
鈥�Falling into聽step with First Peoples students鈥�听迟辞鈥�
- Show respect聽for the realities of First Nations and Inuit people regarding education in Qu茅bec (e.g., language, culture, history, pride in their identity, etc.).
- 厂耻辫辫辞谤迟听the multiple paths and trajectories of First Peoples students.
- 搁别肠辞驳苍颈锄别听the systemic barriers and challenges associated with each of the different levels of education.
- 滨诲别苍迟颈蹿测听potential mechanisms to overcome these barriers, determine the roles of different actors (governments, educational institutions, services, etc.), and obtain concrete commitments from these actors to support and guide First Peoples students throughout their education.
The goals of the forum
- Developed in a collaborative process, the forum seeks to聽rally and bring together the main actors in the world of Indigenous education and all post-secondary institutions in Quebec and across Canada.
- It will serve as a springboard to ensure that the ideas discussed at the forum come to fruition, and that they help聽support Indigenous people in the process of taking charge of education by and for First Peoples, and transforming Qu茅bec and Canadian society.
- Our hope is that this event will mark a commitment by the actors involved to聽take concrete action aimed at overcoming systemic barriers聽to the success of First Peoples students.
