Access to Higher Education for First Peoples Students – February 4


First Peoples face numerous obstacles on their path to academic success, and it is important to recognize these systemic barriers. Five webinars will be held in the coming months to identify these barriers, come up with ways to overcome them, and encourage the engagement of university and government actors at the Forum.de les surmonter et de favoriser la prise dengagement des acteurs universitaires et gouvernementaux lors du forum.

Registration for these free webinars is mandatory (places are limited). Simultaneous interpretation (English/French) will be available.

The National Building Reconciliation Forum is scheduled forSeptember 21-23, 2021 at the
H繫tel Le Concorde in Qu矇bec. The webinars in this schedule will serve to prepare for this Forum.

 

The theme of the forum

Falling intostep with First Peoples students泭喧棗

  • Show respectfor the realities of First Nations and Inuit people regarding education in Qu矇bec (e.g., language, culture, history, pride in their identity, etc.).
  • 釦喝梯梯棗娶喧泭the multiple paths and trajectories of First Peoples students.
  • 賊梗釵棗眶紳勳堝梗泭the systemic barriers and challenges associated with each of the different levels of education.
  • 梆餃梗紳喧勳款聆泭potential mechanisms to overcome these barriers, determine the roles of different actors (governments, educational institutions, services, etc.), and obtain concrete commitments from these actors to support and guide First Peoples students throughout their education.

The goals of the forum

 

  • Developed in a collaborative process, the forum seeks torally and bring together the main actors in the world of Indigenous education and all post-secondary institutions in Quebec and across Canada.
  • It will serve as a springboard to ensure that the ideas discussed at the forum come to fruition, and that they helpsupport Indigenous people in the process of taking charge of education by and for First Peoples, and transforming Qu矇bec and Canadian society.
  • Our hope is that this event will mark a commitment by the actors involved totake concrete action aimed at overcoming systemic barriersto the success of First Peoples students.
